Let’s be clear from the start: this is not an internship.
Internships at big fish® are structured, hands-on, paid, and designed to give graduates real responsibility and learning. They’re oversubscribed, competitive, and of genuine value to both us and the intern.
Work experience is very different…
It’s short-term, unpaid, and designed purely to give students or younger people a taste of what it’s like inside a busy brand consultancy. We’ll show you around, let you shadow our team, and give you some small tasks to help you understand what happens here day to day. But, and this is important, it’s of little direct value to us. In fact, it takes more of our time than it saves. So please don’t expect us to give you too much time as we are a small business and very, very busy.
We offer it because we think it’s important to open the door for people who are curious about creative careers. If that’s you, and you’re just looking to get a feel for the working environment rather than lead projects, this could be the right option.
What to expect
- A short stay in our Chelsea studio (typically a week or a couple of days)
- Shadowing team members across design, strategy, and client services
- Sitting in on meetings, reviews, and critiques
- A chance to ask questions and see how a business really works
- Some small, simple tasks where appropriate
What not to expect…
- Paid work (this is strictly unpaid and for experience only)
- The same level of responsibility or immersion as an internship
- To leave with a portfolio of project work — this is observation, not contribution
Who it’s for?
- Students still at school, college, or university
- People at the very beginning of exploring creative careers
- Anyone curious about how consultancies like us run, but not yet ready for an internship
